  • Most effortless disarms and takedowns are performed with the use of a good lock, with good tecnhique you need very little strength so I often stipulate how important it is to learn a good set of locks for variety and to allow for mistakes and different opponent builds and capabilities.

I usually teach locks individually, then as a lock flow (one after the other), then counter for counter so as one locks their partner the partner then has to release the pressure in the correct/safest place and return a lock, once they have the hang of this I usually advise them to counter the lock before it is put on and return a lock, then allow the partners to freeplay with counter for counter, it is alot of fun and a good way to learn.

  • Hi, in the Rapid Arnis system we use 18 locks in a flow system which we apply and escape from.

I think this is great training for almost every lock can be reversed at some point and the need to know how to escape is vital in some cases.

We also teach many diferent locks in my class (Filipino Self defence) which includes some from Aikido and militery locks and restraints.
